The government of Nasarawa State was flabbergasted by what it saw at tertiary institutions in the states - a situation where there were much more non-teaching than teaching staff. Thus, it had no other option than to place an embargo on employment of non-teaching staff in 3 institutions of higher learning. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has banned cash payments for passport processing as part of efforts to eliminate corruption at all passport offices nationwide, NIS spokesperson, Sunday James, disclosed this in an interview on Monday August 28, in Abuja. He said the Comptroller General of the NIS, Muhammad Babandede, had directed that henceforth all payments for passport processing must be done online and through designated banks‎.‎ The NIS boss had in a circular, directed all passport control officers not to allow cash payments in any of the passport premises. ‎“All payments in respect to passport processing are to be done by applicants through banks to generate application ID and reference number on the NIS portal and not through an individual or touts,” Mr. James said. ‎According to him, the NIS CG has also ordered an‎ investigation into allegations of passport racketeering at some passport offices in Lagos with a view to sanit...

The Lagos state police has arrested a 35 year old roasted meat (suya) seller, Alliu Abdulahi, for allegedly attempting to slaughter a four- year-old girl for Suya. The suspect had allegedly abducted the girl at White sand area of Ebute Meta, while she was playing with her mates in an open field. But as he took her to a secluded area where he attempted to slaughter the girl with a knife, another man saw him and raised alarm. The alarm attracted other people who rescued the girl. A 20-year-old mother, Faith Inyang, on Tuesday disclosed how a pastor, Tony Obo-Ekpeyong, allegedly broke into her home alongside six others to steal her 18-month old baby girl that was allegedly used for rituals, Punch reports. Narrating the sad story of how the incident happened at the headquarters of the Cross River State Command in Calabar on Tuesday, Inyang said her baby was stolen at about 3am on August 24 by masked men whom she said she was able to identify. Men of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a suspected cannibal and member of a notorious kidnap gang, Roland Peter, for killing, beheading and using the liver and intestines of his victim to prepare ‘pepper’ soup and plantain pottage for himself and his gang. . The suspect was among the kidnappers that abducted, killed and beheaded one Pastor Samuel Okpara from Edoha in Ahoada East LGA of the state on August 15, 2017.
